Northern New Jersey Resists (NNJR)

Newark, NJ (4-county region), USA · Founded 2017

Northern New Jersey Resists (NNJR) is a four-county coalition of neighborhood pods, faith communities, and labor locals organizing against ICE raids, attacks on voting rights, and the criminalization of dissent in the 973 area code.

We are made up of people who actually live in Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Hackensack, and the hundred towns in between. We do not parachute in. We do not perform. We knock doors, we show up to hearings, we get arrested when needed, and we build durable neighborhood infrastructure that outlasts any single fight.

What we work on

  • ICE rapid response. A trained, multi-county hotline and bystander-intervention network that turns out within 20 minutes when ICE shows up at someone’s home, workplace, or courthouse.
  • Voter defense. Poll-monitoring teams, ride-to-polls coordination, lawsuit support for voters challenged at the booth.
  • Know-your-rights schools. Free monthly trainings in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Arabic — at libraries, mosques, churches, and union halls.
  • Newark City Hall pressure. Sustained accountability work on the city’s contracts with ICE, on tenant evictions, and on policing budgets.

How to plug in

Find your county pod (Essex, Hudson, Bergen, Passaic) and join its weekly meeting. Bring food, bring a friend, bring your skills. We need lawyers, drivers, cooks, translators, signal-flaggers, and people who’ll just keep showing up.
